Abstract :

Ectopic eruption of supernumerary tooth outside the dental arch, for example supernumerary tooth in the maxillary sinus, may cause other pathologies, such as cyst, tumor and maxillary sinusitis. Surgical removal of supernumerary tooth in the maxillary sinus can be done with many techniques. Bone lid method is one technique which approaches to maxillary sinus via canine fossa. After removing the tooth, the bone lid is replanted to original position with sutured fixation. The advantages of this method are to prevent bone loss and to reduce the deformity of maxillary bone. This case report presented a Thai male patient who had an embedded supernumerary tooth in the right maxillary sinus which was incidentally detected on radiographic examination. He didn’t wish to have the tooth in this area due to concern with the cause of lesion in the future. With the bone lid method, the treatment was successful without any complication. The 1-year follow-up revealed the bone healing in the treated area from cone-beam computerized tomography.
